Wattamolla – a name that carries both historical significance and cultural importance. Its Aboriginal origins mean “place near running water,” a fitting name for the area’s natural beauty. The name was first recorded as Watta-Mowlee by Matthew Flinders, an explorer who visited the area in the late 1700s. Along with George Bass and William Martin, Flinders had been exploring the south coast when a southerly gale forced them to take shelter on the evening of 29 March 1796. Today, the area is known as Wattamolla, and its rich history and diverse landscape continue to attract visitors from all over.
